Had to choose between a nice dresser or an old curio cabinet from the curb last Tuesday

I picked the dresser since it was solid oak and only needed new drawer slides, but now I keep thinking about that curio cabinet with the etched glass doors that someone else grabbed an hour later, anyone else ever second guess a freebie choice?

Oh man, I used to be all about the practical choice every time. Like, give me the solid wood dresser that's going to last 30 years over something that just looks neat. But then I grabbed this scratched up old display case (similar vibes to that curio cabinet) and it totally changed my mind. The glass shelves and weird lighting made my weird little trinkets actually look cool, like a tiny museum in my living room. Now I sorta regret being so practical back then. That etched glass detail you mentioned would haunt me too, honestly. Sometimes the stuff that catches your eye is worth the risk even if it's not the "smarter" pick.

That "tiny museum" thing really hit me, because that's exactly what happened with my weird shelf. Now I'm way more into finding pieces that tell a story, even if they're a little beat up.
