Free couch turned out to be a cat pee nightmare, always check first
Saw someone post a free sectional on Craigslist near Oak and 5th yesterday, drove 20 minutes to pick it up. Get there and the thing reeks of cat pee so bad my eyes watered, they didn't mention it at all. Now I know to always ask about pets and smell before I leave, has anyone else wasted gas on a freebie that was trash?

Wait, did anyone check if the cat pee smell was covering up something way worse? I once grabbed a free chair that smelled like a litter box, but after I got it home and started cleaning it, I found out the foam was completely moldy underneath and the cat pee was actually the lesser of two evils. It's like the pee smell was a decoy for the real problem, you know? Sometimes people drench stuff in enzyme spray to hide black mold or smoke damage, thinking the pee smell will be the only thing you focus on. Might be worth poking around the cushions or checking the frame before you write off the whole couch, could be a bigger mess hiding under that stink.

Doused it with white vinegar and let it sit outside in the sun for a whole day before it finally dried out.
