I spent $180 on a proper infrared thermometer for the furnace and it saved my whole pour last week.

Actually, a furnace thermometer and an oven thermometer are pretty different tools. An infrared gun reads surface temps from a distance, which is perfect for checking a furnace manifold or heat exchanger. An oven thermometer just sits inside to show the air temperature. Using the wrong one could give you a bad reading for a furnace job.

Saw a video where someone used one to check their oven temp. Makes total sense for something like a furnace. Good call.
