That free bookshelf critique saved me from a real hazard
Tbh, I grabbed a solid wooden bookshelf off the curb last month and loaded it with heavy hardcovers, but a guy walking by yelled at me that the MDF backing was water-swollen and would fail fast, so I stripped it and added a plywood back from a pallet I found. Now the thing handles triple the weight, and I check every free piece for water damage before hauling it home. Has anyone else gotten random street-side advice that actually kept you from a broken toe or worse?
