Walked into that new grocery store on Maple Avenue and their flower section made me sad
They had these huge buckets of roses marked down to $10 a dozen, but every single stem was bent at the neck... like they were stored dry for way too long. I asked the kid stocking produce about it and he just shrugged and said 'they came in like that yesterday'. How can a big store just accept and sell flowers that are already ruined? Makes our local shops look even better. Has anyone else seen stuff like this at a chain store lately?

I used to just grab the cheapest flowers at the big box store. Seeing a whole batch of ruined roses like that last month really opened my eyes. It’s such a waste, and you’re right, it makes the local florist worth the extra few bucks. Their stuff actually lasts more than a day.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! I read an article last week about how the big grocery chains get their flowers shipped from huge farms overseas. They sit in boxes for DAYS without water, just to save a few cents per stem. No wonder they're already dead on arrival. It's a total disrespect for the product AND the customer.
