I tried leveling my shed floor with landscape gravel and now I have a pond

So I thought I'd be smart and save money on a concrete pad by using crushed gravel for my 8x10 shed base. Dumped 2 tons of it, raked it flat, spent hours tamping it down. Then it rained last week and now I've got a permanent puddle that attracts every mosquito in the neighborhood. Has anyone else had their gravel base turn into a swamp or am I the only one who skipped the drainage layer?

Well that's rough. Did you put any landscape fabric under the gravel at all?

Three out of four people I know who tried the no-fabric route ended up with weeds popping through within a year. It's like how people skip priming before painting then wonder why the color looks patchy. You're basically giving the gravel a direct highway to mix with the dirt underneath. Just a little prep saves you a ton of headaches down the road.
