My 5 year old blender just started smoking mid smoothie
I was making my morning smoothie in Portland last Tuesday when white smoke started pouring out of the bottom of the blender base. I unplugged it fast but now it won't turn on at all. Has anyone successfully replaced a motor in one of these or is it time to finally let it go?

I had a Ninja do the same thing last year. Pulled the base apart and the bearing on the bottom of the blade assembly had seized up and melted the plastic housing around the motor. Wound up just tossing it because replacement parts cost almost as much as a new one. If yours is a cheaper model like a Hamilton Beach or Oster, it's probably not worth fixing. Check if the blade base spins freely when it's detached, if not that's likely your culprit.

Whoa, that brings back memories. I had a similar thing happen with my old blender but it was even worse. I was making a smoothie and it just stopped dead, started smoking. I took it apart and found a bunch of melted plastic goo all over the motor. The weird part is I think it was because I left it running too long without enough liquid, like the blades just got too hot from the friction. I tried cleaning it up but the plastic had fused to the housing. Ended up just tossing it too because the replacement motor assembly was like 40 bucks for a blender that cost like 30. Sometimes it's better to just cut your losses and get a new one.
