I was told to just get a pre-approval letter and start looking. That was bad advice for me.

Everyone says the pre-approval is step one, so I got mine in a day. Easy. But then I found a house in Tacoma and my offer was accepted. The actual underwriting for the full loan? That took 47 days. The bank needed two full years of my 1099s from pressure washing, which I had, but they kept asking for more explanations. My loan officer said it was 'straightforward' but it felt like pulling teeth. Has anyone else had a huge gap between pre-approval and final closing because of self-employment?

Yeah, the "straightforward" part is what gets you.
