I bought a fancy 'fermentation station' kit online and it was a huge waste of $75
I saw this ad for a complete setup with special weights, a fancy airlock lid, and a fancy crock. It looked so professional, and I thought it would make my sauerkraut perfect. The truth is, I used it ONCE. The weights were too big for the jar, the lid was hard to clean, and my regular wide-mouth jars with a simple cabbage leaf on top work WAY better. I felt so silly for falling for the marketing. That money could have bought me like 20 pounds of cabbage to practice with. Now the whole kit is just taking up space in my cabinet. Has anyone else regretted buying a special gadget and gone back to the simple basics?

Totally did the same thing with a fancy pickle kit.

That fancy kit is the only reason my cucumbers turned into actual pickles last summer. I tried the old school method with just vinegar and salt for years, and it was always a mushy mess. The pre-measured spices and clear instructions took the guesswork out completely. Spending a bit more upfront saved me from wasting a whole harvest.
