My kid thinks our kombucha scoby is a weird jellyfish friend

I've noticed that home fermentation can really shake up family routines in unexpected ways. My youngest son has fully adopted our kombucha scoby as his personal pet, naming it Squishy. He insists on being the one to add the tea and sugar during brew day, which sometimes leads to sticky spills. Now my older daughter wants her own scoby to care for, so we're negotiating who gets to start the next batch. It's turned our kitchen counter into a tiny, bubbling zoo that everyone checks on daily. I find it funny how a jar of fermenting tea has become a centerpiece for kid conversations and gentle arguments. This whole thing has shown me that simple projects like this can create shared family moments. Even the messes feel worth it when I see them so engaged with something real.

Watch how that scoby teaches patience better than any lecture... it's growing and changing in ways you can't even see day to day. My nephew got obsessed with ours and it clicked for him that some of the best stuff, like friendships or hobbies, needs you to just trust the process and not poke it. Kind of a deep lesson from a blob in a jar.

Question if patience lessons from a scoby aren't just wishful thinking.
