My old rounding hammer finally gave out after 15 years last Tuesday
The head just flew off while I was working on a draft horse shoe in the shop. Has anyone found a good replacement that holds up to heavy forging?

Damn, that's a real bummer after 15 years of service lol. I had a cross pein do the same thing a while back, scary when the head just takes off. I've been pretty happy with my current one from Old World Anvils, it's held up to some serious abuse. The eye is super solid, no wobble at all after a couple years of beating on it.

Yeah, a head flying off is no joke, glad you're okay. When mine did that, I started looking for hammers with a longer eye. That extra wood in the handle hole makes a huge difference. I ended up getting one from a local maker who forges them from a single piece of steel, no welds. The weight is perfect right out of the gate and it just feels planted. It's been my daily driver for three years now with zero looseness.
