I was trimming a draft cross in wet mud last week and my rasp kept clogging instantly.

On a whim I sprayed the rasp with a little cooking spray before starting, and it cleared shavings way better for the whole job. Has anyone else tried something like this, or is there a better trick for wet conditions?

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy's disaster last spring. He was trying to rasp his Percheron's hooves after a rainstorm, and the mud was just caking up on the tool instantly. He got so frustrated he actually sprayed some WD-40 on it out of desperation. It worked shockingly well to keep the shavings moving, but then his farrier chewed him out for it later, said it wasn't great for the hoof health. So cooking spray was probably a smarter move.

That part about the farrier chewing him out for WD-40 really sticks with me. What exactly did the farrier say was bad about it? I know it's not made for that, but was it the chemicals soaking into the hoof, or maybe the residue left on the rasp that could cause issues later? Just trying to figure out where the line is between a handy trick and something that could actually cause harm.
