Had a hoof crack that took me 3 hours to patch correctly

I was working on a draft cross last Tuesday with a quarter crack that looked simple but kept splitting as I tried to staple it. After two failed attempts with different patch materials, I finally got it stable with a polyurethane blend and some careful drilling. Ever had a repair that ate up way more time than you thought it would?

Three hours? That's nothing. Quarter cracks are predictable if you know what you're doing. Prep the hoof right and it takes maybe 45 minutes tops.

Oh absolutely agree with you there. Once you've got the prep down right it's basically clockwork. I had a gelding with a real nasty quarter crack a couple years back and the first time I tried fixing it took me way too long because I was second guessing every step. Now I can knock it out in under an hour easy. Quarter cracks are pretty straightforward if you respect the hoof and don't rush the cleaning part.
