Hot take: I stopped using steam in my facials for a full month to see what would happen.

The choice was simple. Keep my $800 steamer running for every single service, or ditch it completely for four weeks. I was worried about extractions being harder without it. But honestly, my results got better. I started using a thick thermal mask warmed in a hot towel cabi instead. It softened the skin just as well, maybe better. My clients with redness said their faces felt calmer right away. One regular even told me her skin 'didn't feel as angry' after. I'm not going back to blasting everyone with steam. Has anyone else tried cutting it out for certain skin types?

You said your results got better, but that's just one month with your specific clients. Steam is a basic tool for a reason. It opens pores deeply and consistently, which a warm towel just can't match for most people. I've seen extractions get way more difficult without it, leading to more trauma. Throwing out a proven method because of a small test seems short-sighted.

Exactly, have you ever tried to do a full extraction on someone who only got a warm towel? I switched back to steam after a few clients had way more redness and soreness the next day. The warm towel just doesn't keep the heat long enough to really soften everything up properly. It made my job harder and their skin paid for it. Some basic things are basic because they actually work better.
