Contrary to popular advice, I don't steam before extractions. Skin handles it better.

But does the warm washcloth actually soften things up enough?

Really? I always steam first. Makes pores open up easier. Less pulling on the skin.

Yeah the "pores open up" thing is what gets me... steaming can make some people way more red and sensitive. I tried it for a while and it just made my skin angry after. Now I just use a really warm washcloth for a minute, it's gentle and gets the job done without the drama.
