Warning: Check your brake shoe adjustment rings on Gen2 machines

Pulled a 4 year old MRL in a Denver office tower last month and found both shoe rings backed off almost a full turn from spec, real common oversight when guys rush through PMs. Anyone else seeing this on newer installs or just my area?

Three years on a Gen2 in Salt Lake and I've never seen a ring back off more than a hair. Maybe we're just lucky here or the torque on the locknut matters more than people think.

MAN oh man that is a REALLY good point you brought up. I've been seeing the exact same thing on a handful of the newer MRLs we service over here in the Phoenix area, it's like the factory doesn't locktite those rings at all anymore. I actually had one where the adjuster backed off so far on a high rise job that the shoe started dragging on the guide rail and left a real nasty groove about a foot long before we caught it. It always pays to double check those rings during the annual just peeking at them with a flashlight isn't enough, you gotta actually put a tool on them and torque them to spec to be safe.
