My old foreman told me to always check the sheave grooves with a nickel, not a dime.

He said a dime is too thin and can make a worn groove seem okay. I finally had a job on a 90s Otis traction unit where the nickel test showed clear wear the dime missed. Saved us from a call back a month later. Anyone else have a simple trick like that for checking wear?

Doubt it matters much, but hey @stella_roberts, maybe your dime trick was fine.

Wait, you're saying a nickel is the right size? That's wild, I always heard to use a dime for everything. Gonna have to switch up my whole routine now.
