My foreman said to always check the governor rope tension first on a noisy car. He was totally right!
I was on a call for a loud grinding sound in a downtown office building. I was about to start pulling the motor when I remembered his advice from a training session two years ago. I checked the governor rope and found it was way too loose, causing the sheave to chatter. Tightened it up and the noise was gone in five minutes. Has anyone else had a simple tip save them a ton of time on a tricky job?

Man, that's the best feeling when a simple fix solves a loud problem. My old boss drilled the same thing into my head, and it's saved my butt more than once. Those little tips from experienced guys are pure gold, especially when you're staring at a motor and overthinking it. What was the customer's reaction when you fixed it so fast?

What's the weirdest place you've found a loose governor rope? Mine was in a hospital elevator, sounded like a bag of rocks.
