Unpopular opinion: I fixed a flickering monitor by baking the main board in my oven

Had a 27 inch Dell monitor with a known bad capacitor issue, but the part was out of stock everywhere. Out of pure frustration, I wrapped the main board in foil, put it on a baking sheet, and heated it at 385 degrees for exactly 8 minutes to reflow the solder. It's been working perfectly for 3 weeks now in my shop. Has anyone else ever tried a heat gun or oven fix on something that was basically a lost cause?

That oven temp is a bit high for a reflow, you risk damaging other parts. Most guides suggest around 385 is the MAX, and even that's pushing it. The foil trick is solid for focusing heat, but next time maybe try starting lower, like 350. Glad it worked out though, that's a great save on a nice monitor.

Read a forum post about using a toaster oven for this.
