Cracked open a 20 year old CRT TV yesterday and saw the cleanest solder joints I've ever seen...

cleanest solder joints I've ever seen" is probably the most beautiful thing anyone could say about a 20 year old CRT. I mean, that's like finding a perfectly preserved VCR with the original remote still in the plastic bag. Who knew a relic from the early 2000s could still look factory fresh inside? Maybe it's just me but I bet that thing was built by someone who actually cared about their job, not like the rushed garbage we get now.

My 1992 Sony Trinitron still has a sticker on the back that says "Inspected by #47" and I picture #47 as this grizzled old guy in a hairnet who took his solder gun more seriously than most people take their marriages. That thing survived two moves and a minor flood and still works better than the modern flat-screen I bought last year that needed a firmware update right out of the box. Must be nice to have a job where you can take pride in a blob of melted metal. Meanwhile, my toaster has a night mode.
