That "full year of work time" idea is a bit misleading. A multimeter just sits there taking readings, it's not actively working like a person. It's more like comparing a parked car's age to a driver's hours on the road.

Exactly, it's like saying my oven has cooked for years because it's old, even though it's off most of the time.
