Stopped by a friend's place in Austin and their door hinge fix was so clever
I was visiting a buddy over there last weekend and his front door was swinging shut perfectly. He said it used to sag and stick. He showed me how he fixed it by just adding a single washer behind the bottom hinge pin, the kind you'd find in any basic hardware kit. He said it took him maybe 10 minutes total with a hammer and a flathead screwdriver to tap the pin out. The door is solid wood and probably 80 pounds, but that tiny washer took all the weight off and leveled it. Has anyone else tried a simple shim trick like this on a heavy door?

Honestly, that fix never lasts for me.

My back door at my old house in San Antonio did the exact same thing. I fought with it for two years, trying to adjust the strike plate and everything. I finally watched a YouTube video that showed the washer trick. I used two thin washers stacked on the bottom hinge, and it was like magic. It's crazy how such a small piece of metal can solve a problem that feels so big. I tell everyone about it now.
