Paint roller covers aren't worth washing after the first use

I used to rinse and dry mine like the back of the box says, but after my 3rd ceiling coat in July, the fibers started shedding into the finish. Plus, the nap gets matted down no matter how careful I am. Now I just buy a 6-pack of cheap 9-inch covers and toss them after each room in Austin. Anyone else find that washing just makes the next job worse?
