Hinge pin trick from a YouTube handyman, worked or did I get lucky?
A guy named Dave in a comment said to use a nail as a hinge pin punch instead of buying the $15 tool, so I tried it on my squeaky kitchen cabinet. It worked perfectly, but now I'm wondering if that's solid advice or just a one-time fluke, anyone else tried this shortcut and had it fail?

Ha, I know that feeling of wondering if a cheap fix is actually gonna hold up or if you just got lucky this once. My dad always said a nail works fine as long as it's the same size as the pin and you tap it straight, but the real trick is not messing up the hole by going at it too hard. So yeah, sounds like solid advice to me, not just a fluke.
