Walked past a new condo build in Austin and the tape job looked like a kid did it.
I was on a job nearby and saw the seams from the street, they were all bubbled and you could see the paper peeling up. The crew must have used way too much mud or didn't bed the tape right at all. How does work that bad even pass a basic walk-through?

You know, I used to wonder the same thing. I figured any inspector would catch tape that bad. Then I worked on a project where the city inspector basically just checked the permit and counted the smoke alarms. They never even looked at the drywall. It made me realize the walk-through isn't really about craft for a lot of these big, fast builds. It's just a box to check.

Yeah, the "box to check" part really nails it. I used to assume they looked at everything close up. Then I saw an inspector pass a place with a door that wouldn't even latch. Just looked at the paperwork and left. Totally changed how I see those final sign-offs now.
