Update: I finally gave those collapsible mud pans a real shot on a big job
For the longest time, I thought the collapsible mud pans were just a silly gimmick for weekend warriors. They looked flimsy compared to my solid metal ones. But my buddy kept going on about how much easier they made cleanup and transport, so I borrowed one for a full house job in Tempe last month. We had to move between three floors all day, and not having to carry a bulky, dripping pan up and down the stairs was a game changer. It held up fine for taping and two coats, and rinsing it out at the end of the day took half the time. I'm not ready to toss my old pans, but I bought one for myself the next week. Has anyone else switched over, or do you still think they're not worth it for heavy use?

So you're saying they actually hold up for a full day's work? I always figured they'd just buckle under a heavy load of mud... makes me wonder about those collapsible buckets too, the ones that look like a big silicone cup. Saw a guy using one on a site once and it seemed to just flop around when he walked. Maybe some of this stuff is better than it looks.

Trust the collapsible ones for light loads, @xena_murphy, but get a rigid bucket for mud.
