Spent 6 hours chasing a silt plug that was hiding in plain sight

Running a 12-inch cutterhead on the Willamette near Portland last month, and the slurry output just died to a trickle. Swore it was the suction line, so I shut down and pulled the intake screens, nothing there. Checked the pump impeller for wear, looked fine. Even had the dive guy go down to inspect the cutter teeth, which cost me a hundred bucks for him to say they were clean. Finally traced it to a baffle plate inside the discharge pipe that had worked loose and flipped sideways, catching every piece of gravel that came through. How often do you guys actually inspect those internal baffles, or am I the only one who learned that lesson the slow way?
