Silt buildup on cutterhead solved with a grease gun trick
We run a small 8-inch dredge near Mobile Bay and kept losing suction every few days from packed clay and shell bits. I tried different jetting angles and even upped the pump speed, but nothing held longer than a shift. Last week I put a zerk fitting on the cutterhead hub and gave it two pumps of grease every time we cleared the intake. That layer stops the fines from gluing themselves to the blades, and we ran 60 hours straight without pulling the ladder. Has anyone else tried greasing the hub or do you go with water spray setups instead?
