Old timer's comment on my swing radius changed my whole cut routine

Was cutting a tight channel near the intake screens in Tacoma last spring and this 30 year veteran walks by, watches me for a minute, then says "you're swinging too wide for this spot." I told him it was fine, I'd done it this way for 3 years. He just shrugged. But I tried shortening my swing by about a foot and using more wrist pivot instead of shoulder. Took less time per cut, way less wear on the cutterhead, and the finish was cleaner. Now I adjust swing based on the space before I even start. Anyone else had feedback that made them change something they thought was already second nature?
