Had a senior drafter remind me yesterday that I was overcomplicating my layer naming system
He said 'just use the same 5 layers you used on the last project that worked, not a new code for every tiny detail' and now I'm kicking myself for all those hours wasted on fancy naming schemes that nobody else could follow.

Devil's advocate here, but that senior drafter is kinda missing the bigger picture. Layer naming systems exist so new people or future you can actually find things fast without digging through a mess. If you just copy last project's layers, you end up with a spaghetti pile of random stuff that made sense only at that moment. A five-layer setup works great for small stuff, but on a big commercial project, you'll waste way more time later hunting for that one wall type or weird block you used. Your overcomplicated system might have been too much, but calling it a total waste is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Why not ask the senior if you can build a 'common project template' that's beefy enough to cover most situations?

@riley_bell nailed it with "throwing the baby out with the bathwater." That senior's just being lazy honestly. Templates exist for a reason.
