The 2am ceiling leak that exposed my plumbing shortcut
Read a post last week where a guy bragged about using sharkbite fittings behind a closed wall. I did the same thing in my bathroom remodel back in March. Last Tuesday at 2am I heard dripping, pulled down the drywall, and one fitting had let go. The fitting itself was fine, but the pipe movement torqued it loose over time. Now I have to cut out 6 feet of pipe and sweat copper just to sleep again. Anyone else regret trusting push-fit in a spot you can't reach?

Thermal expansion is what got you, not the fitting itself. Copper moves with temp changes and push-fit relies on the pipe staying put, so in a closed wall with hot water cycling all day that joint just works itself loose over months. That's the part guys bragging about sharkbite never mention. Sweating copper gives you a rigid joint that expands as one piece, which is why it holds up where you can't get back in there.
