That $20 caulk gun from the big box store cost me a whole day of work
Bought a cheap ratchet rod caulk gun at Home Depot and it kept slipping, leaving globs everywhere on my baseboards. Had to scrape and redo 40 feet of trim caulk. Anyone found a brand that actually holds steady for the full tube?

Start with swapping the factory lube for a light synthetic oil, @andrew_sanchez94, it made a big difference in smoothness for me. Makes the needle drop way more consistent over time.
