Spent $600 on a proper tile saw for my bathroom floor, and it was the best money I ever wasted.

Proper tile saw" is the key. Heard a contractor say a cheap one will ruin more tile than it cuts.

That contractor probably had a bad day with a really awful saw. Honestly, a decent mid-range saw from a hardware store works fine for most DIY jobs. It's more about taking your time and using a good blade than spending a fortune on the tool itself. You can wreck tile on an expensive saw if you rush it, @the_andrew. For a bathroom or a backsplash, you don't need pro-grade equipment. Just get something that doesn't feel like it'll shake apart.
