My kitchen cabinet hinge swap took 6 hours instead of 2

I tried replacing all the hinges on my 1980s oak cabinets last Saturday thinking it would be a quick afternoon job. Turns out none of the screw holes lined up because the old hinges had a weird offset I didn't account for. Has anyone else dealt with mismatched hinge patterns on older cabinets, or did I just pick the wrong style?

My 1970s kitchen took 4 hours just to get the first three hinges on because of the same issue. I ended up cutting thin wooden shims and gluing them into the old screw holes to plug them, then I drilled new pilot holes in the right spots for the new offset hinges. It was extra work but way faster than trying to fill and match the old pattern exactly. The shims held up fine over the last two years with no sagging.

1970s cabinet guy here, those old offset hinges are a nightmare.
