Discovered my kitchen floor is crooked 3 years after buying the house
Last month I rolled a marble across the kitchen and it went straight for the baseboard. I thought it was just a bad tile job but my level showed a 1/4 inch drop over 6 feet. Turns out the subfloor was never leveled when they laid the vinyl planks. Now I'm looking at whether I can pour self leveler over the planks or if I gotta rip it all out. Anybody fixed a similar problem without tearing up the whole floor?

...and I bet your cabinets are fine, they're just gaslighting you now. That crooked floor's been messing with your head for three years and you didn't even know it. My buddy tried the self leveler over vinyl route and it turned his kitchen into a wavy funhouse floor, looked worse than before. Honestly I'd just rip it out and start over before you end up with a whole new set of problems. Sometimes you gotta admit the house won and just rip the bandaid off.

...and I swear once you start noticing one thing being off in a house, you start seeing it everywhere. Like my kitchen counter is level but that crooked floor makes the cabinets look like they're leaning back even though they're fine. I had a similar thing in my first house with a sunken living room that was supposed to be charming but really it was just a dip in the foundation. For your situation I've heard mixed things about pouring self leveler over vinyl planks because the weight can pop them up or trap moisture underneath. My buddy tried it and ended up with bubbles under the leveler a few months later so he wishes he just tore it out and started fresh even though it sucked to do. Might be worth getting a pro to tell you if your planks are stuck down tight enough to handle the weight before you commit to anything.
