Chatted with a contractor at Home Depot last weekend and he changed how I think about caulking

Guy saw me loading up 4 tubes of cheap DAP and straight up said "you're gonna be back in 6 months redoing that whole bathroom." He walked me over to the silicone stuff that costs like $9 a tube and explained the difference. Never really thought about how the cheap stuff shrinks and cracks after a season or two of hot showers and humidity here in Atlanta. Spent $36 instead of $12 but he might have saved me a weekend of scraping next year. Anyone else had a random stranger talk them into spending more at the register?

That's funny you mention that cause I had a buddy who did the exact same thing with cheap caulk in his shower... redid the whole thing and thought he saved a bunch. About 8 months later he was texting me pictures of these little black spots forming in the cracks where the caulk was peeling up. Turned out to be mold growing behind it cause the cheap stuff lost its seal. He ended up having to scrape everything out with a razor blade and it took him like two full Saturdays. He still talks about that contractor at Home Depot like some kind of prophet now.

Poor guy learned the hard way like @oliver811 said, cheap just ain't worth it sometimes.
