Vent: My brother-in-law saw my floating shelf install and just said 'you know those brackets show, right?'

He pointed at the tiny metal edge peeking out from under the pine, which I'd completely missed after three hours of careful leveling in my garage last weekend, and now I can't unsee it.

Yeah, that kind of comment sticks with you forever. I get what @davis.jason means about shelf-bracket-vision, it's like a curse. You put all that work into getting it level and solid, and now you just see that one tiny flaw. Honestly, most people would only notice the shelf itself, not the hardware.

Ugh, that kind of "help" is the worst. My own DIY projects are basically a museum of tiny mistakes only I can see. At this point, if a visitor doesn't point out a flaw, I start to worry they're not looking hard enough. It's like my personal brand of home decor anxiety. That shelf is probably perfectly fine and he just ruined your ability to enjoy it.

Oh man, that's the worst kind of help. He just gave you a permanent case of shelf-bracket-vision. Three hours of leveling and that's the only thing he notices? Classic.
