The day my hallway wallpaper started peeling 2 hours after I finished
Last Saturday in my Minneapolis condo, I put up what I thought was perfect peel-and-stick wallpaper on the hallway. By Sunday morning, the top edge was curling down like a old poster. Turns out I skipped cleaning the wall with TSP first because the directions said it was optional. Now I'm redoing the whole 12-foot section this weekend. Has anyone else learned that 'optional' prep steps are actually mandatory?

Oh man, that's rough. "Optional" always means mandatory in my experience.

Yeah optional is just a fancy way of saying "we'll remember you said no" haha. Back when I had to deal with a similar setup, I just showed them the math on what happens when you skip the "optional" stuff. It didn't go great but at least they stopped pretending it was a choice. Sometimes you gotta let them see the mess before they believe you.
