Spent 11 years caulking baseboards the wrong way, my neighbor finally showed me my mistake
I was smoothing it with my finger like everyone does, then this old guy next door watched me for a minute and handed me a damp spoon, saying 'tool it, don't smear it,' and now my trim looks like it was done by someone who actually knows what they're doing, anyone else have a moment like that where a simple change flipped everything?

Honestly, I gotta push back on that one. I’ve been caulking baseboards for like 15 years and I still smooth with my finger, just a wet one, and it comes out fine. The spoon trick works great for straight, long runs, but on inside corners or any wobbly old wall, that rigid edge digs in and leaves lines you gotta sand. Plus, a finger can feel the gap and push caulk where it needs to go, a spoon can’t do that. Tbh, I tried the tool thing once and it looked worse than my smears. Different strokes, I guess, but I’m not throwing away my finger yet.
