Rant: my neighbor's "helpful" advice about my shed foundation was dead wrong
Last weekend I was digging post holes for a 10x12 shed and this guy from two doors down walks over, says I'm wasting time with concrete tubes and should just use gravel. I followed his plan, and two days later one of the posts shifted half an inch in the rain. Has anyone else gotten confident advice from a neighbor that ended up costing you more work than if you'd just looked it up yourself?

My neighbor Bob did the same thing to me last spring when I was putting up a fence. He swore I didn't need to rent an auger, said a sharp shovel and some elbow grease would do the trick. Three posts later and my back was shot, plus two of the holes were so crooked the fence line looked like a wave. I ended up renting the auger anyway and had to redo all the digging. Now I just nod and smile whenever Bob offers advice, then I go check actual building guides online.
