Picked peel and stick tile over real ceramic for my rental kitchen backsplash, and 8 weeks later here is the truth
Honestly I stood in the flooring aisle at the Home Depot on 4th street for like 45 minutes holding a box of each. Real ceramic tile would have cost me around $180 with thinset and a rented wet saw, and the peel and stick sheets were $44 total for the whole wall. Since it is a rental and my landlord said go ahead but do not make me fix anything, I went with the peel and stick. Tbh the first two sheets went on crooked because I trusted the counter line instead of a level, so I pulled them up and started over with a chalk line. Ngl it has held up way nicer than I expected, no peeling near the stove and wiping grease off is easy. The one thing nobody mentions is the outlets, cutting around those little rectangles with a utility knife is a pain and mine look a bit rough. My wife says you can only tell if you get real close, and for 44 bucks I can live with that. Anyone here ever pull these off after a couple years and did it wreck the drywall behind it?

8 weeks is nothing though. Come back after a full year of steam from the stove and grease splatter and tell me how those edges near the counter look. I had a buddy do the peel and stick thing in his apartment and it looked fine at first too, then by month 10 the corners started curling up and he had these little gaps showing the old wall color. The drywall thing is what would bug me, because if that adhesive cures for 2 years on bare drywall you are patching and priming before you get your deposit back. For a rental where you might move out soon it makes sense, but calling it the truth at 8 weeks is jumping the gun.
