My neighbor pointed out a huge gap in my deck ledger board flashing

I was finishing up a new deck build last month, and my neighbor Bob, who's a retired contractor, came over to look. He didn't say much at first, then just pointed at the ledger board and said, 'Your flashing is wrong. It's letting water right into your house wall.' I had used a simple Z-flash piece, but he showed me how it wasn't tucked up under the siding properly. There was about a quarter-inch gap where water could get in. I had to pull off a whole section of siding to fix it, which added a full day of work. Now I always check the manufacturer's guide for the exact flashing method before I even start. Has anyone else had to redo flashing because of a small mistake like that?

Ugh, that's the worst! It feels like half the problems in houses come from tiny details nobody sees until it's too late. My old apartment had a slow leak from a window install where the sealant didn't quite meet in the corner. It's crazy how something so small can cause such a huge headache later.

Sometimes those small gaps let the wall breathe and dry out anyway.
