Vent: patching one crack in my blacktop turned into 6 hours because I used the wrong filler first
So I had a crack about 4 feet long and maybe half an inch wide near the garage apron, and I figured it was a 30 minute job before work on Saturday. I grabbed a tube of latex crack filler from the hardware store down the street and squirted it in, then went inside for lunch. Two days later it was already sinking and peeling up at the edges, so I had to dig all of it back out with a screwdriver and a shop vac, which alone took almost 90 minutes. The guy at the supply yard in Fresno told me I needed the hot pour rubber stuff or at least a proper cold pour with sand mixed in for a crack that wide. Went back, cleaned it out again, poured the right filler, and then waited about 4 hours for it to set before I could even think about sealing over it. Total weekend time: close to 6 hours for one crack that I thought would take half an hour. Anyone else get burned by the cheap squeeze tube filler or is that just me being impatient?
