Just realized I wasted $50 on a fancy cable sleeve kit

I spent 50 bucks on one of those braided cable sleeve kits to clean up my desk, but it took me two hours to thread all my cables through the little tubes and they still looked messy. Turns out a pack of velcro ties for 8 dollars would have done the same job in 5 minutes with way less frustration. Anyone else buy expensive cable management stuff when cheap solutions work better?

Velcro ties are the real hero of cable management. I bought a 12 dollar box of them off Amazon three years ago and they still work great. Those fancy sleeve kits look nice in pictures but they are a nightmare in real life. The struggle of getting all the cables through the tubes is just not worth it. Plus when you need to unplug something you have to take the whole sleeve off again. Save your money and stick with the simple stuff.

I gotta disagree here man. Velcro ties are fine for basic stuff but if you have a nice desk setup you're looking at every day, those sleeves make a huge difference in how clean everything looks. The key is you don't snake every single cable through the tube at once. You put the sleeve on first then feed the cables in one at a time as you connect them. Way easier that way. And if you need to unplug something, just cut the sleeve open with scissors and throw a new one on, they come in bulk packs for cheap. The velcro approach gets messy over time too, the loops start fraying and losing their grip after a while.
