My grinder's cord snagged and flew off the counter, so I fixed it with a 99 cent bike part
Last Tuesday I was making my morning cup and the burr grinder walked right off the edge of the counter because the cord caught on the drawer pull. The hopper lid cracked and grounds went everywhere, and I just stood there in my socks staring at the mess for a good minute. The part that really stung was the prong on the plug bent sideways, so the thing would not even power on after I scooped up the beans. I sat down with a flashlight and a pair of pliers and realized the plastic strain relief at the base of the cord was toast, that was the whole reason it snagged in the first place. Then it hit me that my kid's old bike brake cable has a little rubber boot that clamps down on the cable, so I snipped it off and slid it over the grinder cord where it meets the housing. Two zip ties later the cord stays put and the grinder sits flat instead of dancing around when it runs. Total fix cost me 99 cents for the ties and the grinder has not budged in 6 days. Curious if anyone else has rigged a strain relief on a small appliance, and what material held up over time.
