My $8 thrift store popcorn air popper torched my counter last Tuesday, dont roast beans in these things
Found a West Bend Poppery at a Goodwill in Boise for $8 and thought I cracked the code after reading some old forum post about modding them for home roasting. Ran about 90 grams of green beans through it on my kitchen counter last Tuesday and the plastic base got so hot it left a brown scorch ring I cant scrub out. Thing is the motor and heating element share one circuit, so the fan slows down as it heats up and the beans just sit there cooking instead of tumbling. Swapped in a $14 replacement thermal fuse and cut a vent hole, but it still hit 480F by the 7 minute mark. Anyone actually get one of these to work long term or should I just move to a heat gun setup?
