Just realized my kettle spout was the problem this whole time
I've been doing pour overs for about 4 years now with this old gooseneck kettle I got for $18 at a garage sale in Portland. Last week I borrowed my buddy's nicer kettle and my pour suddenly had way more control, no more sputtering or drips running down the side. Turns out my spout had a tiny burr on the edge from a drop that was messing up the stream the entire time. A little fine sandpaper and 10 minutes fixed it, cost me nothing. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has fixed a cheap kettle with just some sanding or filing? Or should I just upgrade already?

Wait, you mean I could have just sanded down my old kettle instead of buying a whole new one? That's wild because I had the exact same issue with this cheap stainless steel one I got at a flea market, the stream would always curl to the left no matter how careful I was. I literally just replaced it last month because I thought the spout was bent or something, but turns out it was just a rough spot from where I dropped it on the counter one time. Now I'm kicking myself because I spent $40 on a new one and all I needed was ten minutes and some sandpaper. Good on you for figuring that out, I'm gonna try that trick next time before I go shopping.
