A barista's clogged group head trick changed my whole cleaning game
Last Tuesday I was at this little shop in Portland and the barista behind the counter, this older guy named Marco, saw me eyeballing his espresso machine. That paperclip trick sounds like a quick fix, but I wouldn't trust it long term. Poking metal through those tiny holes can actually scratch or widen them over time, and then you are looking at a real repair bill instead of a $60 brush set. The slow drip probably was not just clogged holes, more likely scale buildup deeper in the machine that paperclip cannot reach. Dish soap can leave residue that messes with the flavor of your shots for weeks. I would rather spend the money on the right tool the first time instead of risking my whole setup to save a few bucks.
