The one homeowner who taught me to respect the soil test
Last summer I was bidding a tree removal job in Maplewood and this older guy, Ron, came out and asked if I actually do a perk test before I plant replacements. I shrugged it off, but he walked me over to this patch where his old oak died and showed me the clay layer, like 8 inches down was solid blue clay. He said "you can't out-dig that with a shovel and a prayer," and it stuck with me ever since. Has anyone else run into a customer who knew more about soil than you did on their own property?
