Spent $80 on a laser level and it paid for itself in one afternoon

I was putting up a shed foundation out back and kept messing with string lines and a bubble level for hours. Finally broke down and bought a cheap self-leveling laser at Home Depot for $80. Set it up on a tripod and marked all my posts in about 20 minutes flat. Turns out my old string method was off by nearly 2 inches across 12 feet, which would have meant a crooked roof. Has anyone else tried going cheap on marking tools and regretted it, or is a good level worth more than the fancy drills?
